So where are all the female artists in SF (and beyond)?!!!
I know women are just as capable as men but there always seems
to be a lack of female talent out in the 'creative' world.
A friend and I were just talking , putting a show together and
we could only come up with a few female artists - Alicia McCarthy,Kelly Tunstall, Tiffany Bozic - we would consider while there were a plethora of male.
Please ladies, I know you're good at all kinds of other 'arts' but
ya gotta represent.
Anyone makin' art out there? Please direct me to your websites or
tell where I may see some good urban, surreal, contemporary
works made by the female hand.
Much thanx.

Re: SF female painters/artists?
Tue, May 24, 2005 - 9:44 AMit's not that women aren't "producing" their work - it's the attention (money/time/kudos) given to us/our work that is lacking!
website of close friend of mine, sf based painter:
mayagonzalez.com
unfortunately maya has been navigating a long-term heavy metals poisoning illness and not able to do much new work. but she still active. and much of her work is being incorporated into other people's compilations lately.
check her out. she's amazing. -

Re: SF female painters/artists?
Fri, May 27, 2005 - 6:42 PMYeah, I get that women don't get as much 'attention' but at the same time I'm
so curious why in this day and age. Personally, if I see someone who's talented it doesn't matter to me the gender and since it still seems to be this
'man's world' thing going on, it makes me shout even louder in praise when
I see the ladies out there rockin' it.
It's such a complex and indepth discussion.
I just wish or rather hope to see more of the female side out there balancing
things a bit.
Here's links to a couple ladies I mentioned who's work I really dig...

Re: SF female painters/artists?
Mon, May 30, 2005 - 12:10 PMp.s. on maya - because of her heavy metals poisoning, she hasn't been able to work - to try to supplement all her uninsured health care costs, she and another artist friend are selling notecards with their work - also on her site.
please support one another, in whatever ways possible! -

Re: SF female painters/artists?
Wed, May 31, 2006 - 2:47 PMi'm working.
i have been for years, i can't stop.
i am another who screams where are the other women
and
why aren't they out there
i hate to say it, but it's probably cause of kids and family or something of the sort
the importance of art sways when children or family come into the picture.
i have this website
www.faernworks.com
which is about to change a whole lot, as soon as i can get someone to navigate for me...
i also have this little linky of more recent works, all of which will be on the new website + a whole lot more
www.faernworks.com/images/p...s%20dest/
and i have this store/ but that's mostly jewelry for now...
faernworks.etsy.com/
you can also check out my photos if you like/
www.flickr.com/photos/faernworks/
i know when you click on there it looks like just event images/ but on the right hand side there are sets of different things to look at or just click here... www.flickr.com/photos/faernworks/sets/ that's probably easier
(there are also some other links on my profile)
thanks for asking!
Faern
