remedios varo

She was born in Angles, Spain in 1908, died in 1963. Her paintings are amazing, of dreams, imagery, though not very well-known. It has been said that she may have studied with Dali. One of my favorites, "Fenomeno", from '62, a man is a walking shadow, and his shadow holds his face and tie.

There is a thread back on Jan 28th, 2004 on Remidios Varo.. some good palaver there.
Not that we can't discuss MORE -

It is odd that she is such an unknown to the general public.. most people react to her work as being very BEAUTIFUL, (as well as having the strangeness of the dreamlike style..)
Possibly someday a major museum show, or a film maker will help bring her more into deserved prominence. Meanwhile, we can enjoy the sort of esoteric flavor of loving an obscure genius.

Her work is amazing, I saw her paintings 2 years ago in a museum in Chapultepec Park, Mexico City. At the time I did not know who she was. I trully love her work.

I just saw one of her pieces in an exhibition we had here in Hartford CT. Her work is amazing; and so overlooked, like most female artists. I'd love to see more!

yeah, I just liked how they portrayed her as a strong and independent woman instead of the usual victim of circumstances, or men, all the problems were there, but it wasn't from the angle of her whole life being a poor unfortunate dependent woman........
